Whenever the Silicon Muse inspires me, I dabble in video special effects. As time progresses I'm getting more and more ambitious... currently all my C programs that generate these effects write thousands of Targa images, one per frame - there are a number of tools out there on the web that will convert the Targa sequences into AVI files, and from there to, well, whatever you want, DVD Video, MPEG-1, 2, & 4, streaming Flash video, etc.
